Bafoussam: FCFA 205M worth of fake drugs destroyed

An important stock of expired and falsified drugs and Indian hemp worth over FCFA 205 million seized recently by customs officials and officials of the regional committee for the fight against fake drugs in health facilities in the West region were on Wednesday November 29 destroyed.

The stock of fake and expired drugs consisted of antibiotics, painkillers and contraceptives. According to reports, the stock seized by customs officials is worth FCFA 183 million while expired medication seized in health facilities is worth FCFA 15 million and FCFA 7 million for some other expired drugs found in the stores of the West Regional Fund for Health Promotion.

The destruction process was supervised by the Secretary General at the West Governor’s office, Audrey Epente Tazeu.

Audrey Epente Tazeu reassured the public of government’s desire to clean up the drug distribution sector which is frequently being invaded with fake drugs.
