Bafoussam: 24-year-old man who kidnapped student arrested

The man who successfully kidnapped a student at Government Bilingual High School Bafoussam last September 5th has been arrested and presented to the press.

He was presented to the press on September 19 by security elements. The kidnapper, according to security forces, presented himself at the premises of the school as a manual labour teacher of the 4e class on day one of the new academic year. After simulating a manual labour scene that day, the abductor whose only name CNA got as Ngankam, succeeded to get his prey, an 11-year-old student, whom he took to his hiding place at Djebem, in the Koung-Khi division still in the West region. As ransom, the kidnapper demanded the sum of FCFA 3 million from his victims.

He fell into the dragnets of security forces following an ambush at his hiding place following investigations carried out by the Judicial Police of Bafoussam. Reports say this is not the first time Ngankam is carrying out such an act. He had previously succeeded to extort the sum of FCFA 600.000 from the family of a 4-year-old he reportedly kidnapped in Mendong, Centre region of Cameroon.

The culprit confesses that he did this because he was in need of money to pursue his dream of studying abroad.

Parents on their part have been called upon to be very vigilant and always be aware of the movements of the children.
