Bafoussam: 11 Bags of cannabis seized, 3 suspected traffickers arrested
Security elements in Bafoussam have apprehended three suspected cannabis traffickers in Batcham-Bamboutos Division of the West region.
The suspects were in possession of 11 bags of cannabis ready to be smuggled to major towns in the West, Centre and Littoral regions.
Apart from the arrest of the three suspects and seizure of the 11 bags, a four-hectare piece of land on which the suspects grow the cannabis was discovered in Batchweti, a locality in Batcham.
“Security forces would never have known of this cannabis farmland in Batchweti if an informant had not contacted us and disclosed this information. Nothing more than cannabis is planted on the four-hectare farm land” revealed Joseph Léopold KAMGA, Bafoussam ESIR commander.
All the intercepted bags of cannabis have been put at the disposal of the West Regional Delegation for National Security for destruction. The delegate ordered the deployed team to destroy the cannabis on the farm land.
One of the three suspected cannabis growers and traffickers confessed joblessness and poverty pushed him into this unlawful activity:
“I couldn’t find something doing. I decided to try this to generate some income. I know this act is against the law and I was not supposed to engage in it.”
The three suspects are currently behind bars and will be tried in court in Bafoussam in the days ahead.
