Bafemgha: two children of same family mysteriously die on same day
Two children from the same family lost their lives on April 4th while farming with their parents in Bafemgha, a locality in Mbouda subdivision.
According to sources, the two children whose names we got as Diffo Longfo Kuete aged 7 and Massap Mervane aged 4, were farming with their parents when they suddenly started showing signs of suffocation.
“We were farming together when rains began. So I asked Mervane to go and get the umbrella. As he was going, he suddenly collapsed,” declared the children’s lamenting mother. “We immediately rushed him to hospital where he passed away,” she added.
The elder child, Diffo on his part according to family sources, returned home on his own where he also began suffocating.
“Diffo also showed signs of suffocation at home and was rushed to hospital but unfortunately died,” the mother told CNA.
Preliminary findings have it that the two children had touched maize seeds that were conserved with toxic chemicals and later ate rice without washing their hands.
“We all ate the same food in farm, we ate rice. While in farm, the two told us they were going to harvest mushrooms after having planted maize and ate with us. I don’t know what happened next,” the mother added.
Further investigations from the Babadjou Gendarmerie unit have been opened to shed light into the matter.
Let’s recall that a similar incident happened a year ago still in Bafemgha where two children equally lost their lives after consuming a toxic substance.
