Bad Journalism has really crippled Cameroon football – Angu Lesley

In a saint society, Journalists will not say their colleagues should be songbirds. If we had good Journalism, our football will not be in the mud today. When we asks questions to those running public office some see it as hatred.

At the end of the day, we need to empower Journalists and good Journalism. May God give us more vision and financial blessings to improve our independence and make us more professional. When l hear a Journalist reducing colleagues to praise and worship singers, l weep.  We have to look at each other in the face and say the truth: afterall, even the holy Bible says only the truth shall set us free.

Permit me to borrow from elsewhere, Kwesi Nyantankyi was doing so well for Ghanaian football when Anas and others exposed his corruption scheme. Kwesi had qualified Ghana for its first world cup in 2006, reached the quarter-final of the World Cup in their second appearance in 2010, plus made another World Cup appearance in 2014. They played two AFCON final under him, reached the semi final in 2008, won the U-20 World Cup with Kwesi at the helm of GFA, plus had the likes of Essien, John Mensah, Isaac Vorsah, Richard Kingston, Sulley Alli Muntari, Michael Essien, Agyemeng Badu, Kwadoh Assamoah trained in Ghana and transferred to top clubs abroad. He was the first vice president of CAF. He underwrote the first contracts of Essien, Muntari and others. More than a legend right? but somehow Ghanaians called him out.

Today we act as if calling out people at the helm of our football or sports is hatred.

The mentality of Pascal and I come from the same village so l shouldn’t ask questions to a system he belongs to or spare Mbigha because we come from the same region, or Esa Pius gave a project of my heart one of its best player, so l should not criticise the system he is part of. He is a star and doesn’t lack money do we can only praise him.

Such a poverty trapped mentality from people of the so-called fourth estate.

Eto’o has had proud moments in his career: moments he looked back to and said Wow!! l did it. Did it not because he illogically thinks he was successful as he claims in FECAFOOT today, he did it because he conquered and raised the Cameroon flag high and made Cameroonians happy. Do all these defeats and scandals make those Cameroonians happy so we can qualify it as success??

The Minister on his part is logged in an endless battle with no strategic plan to find a common ground for the interest of the nation. The state on its part watches haplessly. Just wow!!!

Anyways, the standards are falling and we are weeping together. Where is the interest of the nation??

May God empower Journalists in Cameroon to live beyond hand to mouth life.

Good Journalism builds a strong ecosystem for all.
