Babadjou municipal councillors vote the sum of FCFA 700 million for development projects

The Construction of a trade center in Babadjou that will supply other neighboring regions and countries in foodstuff will be one of the priorities of the Babadjou Municipal Council during the upcoming year.

This information was revealed during the council’s ordinary session to examine and vote its budget for the 2023 financial year. The session which was presided over by Tsangue Gisèle, Lord Mayor of the council, had in attendance the first deputy to the Senior Divisional Officer for Bamboutos and municipal councillors.

The sum of FCFA 700 million balanced in income and expenses was adopted during the 2-day session and will be consecrated to the construction of a sub-regional market in Kombou, a locality in Babadjou. The trade center will facilitate the supply of basic foodstuff to other regions like the North West, South West, Littoral, Center regions and neighboring countries. Other priorities in the upcoming year will investment in the health sector, the construction commercial areas in local markets of various neighborhoods that will be income generating to the council, the maintenance of farm to market roads to facilitate the transportation of food crops among many others.

These projects according to Tsangue Gisèle will bring development to the locality especially with the tarring of the national number 6 road that passes through the municipality.

“Babadjou subdivision will be an investment attraction city in the nearest future. We all are working towards that dream and I bet you that together we shall realize it,” she told the press after the council session.

With the massive arrival of Internally displaced persons in the locality, she says the area has to be accommodated for their safety so that they feel at home in the host community.

“We know that not all IDPs who arrive here might not return, some might want to invest in the land. It’s another motivation for us to make the land, a land of all by investing in the health and education sectors, ” she added.

Also, 12 deliberations were unanimously validated, among which was the imposition of a parking tax of FCFA 50 per vehicle per day. A store rentage tax deliberation which figured among the list was not validated, pending approval from the Councillors.
The locality also will be transformed into a green light city with the creation of a leisure park as she mentioned.

The council session rounded up with a call from the First Deputy to the SDO for Bamboutos calling on all Municipal Councillors to shove away personal interests and work for the general interest of the municipality.
