Babadjou: heavy rains destroy crops
Crops have been destroyed by heavy rains in Bamegnia and Bachua in Babadjou subdivision.
Gardeners in the swampy area covering many hectares were shocked in the early hours of Monday October 10 after floods resulting from heavy rains that night, had carried away and buried some of their crops.
“I planted celery, poireaux and other crops as you can see, they have been destroyed by rains. What a loss, I invested more than FCFA 200 000 in it and was preparing to harvest, ” a victim explains.
“I was counting on this to better prepare for my end of year. It’s really hard to get digest such a shock ” another victim tells us.
Over 10 farmers were affected by the flooding and have registered great losses.
West regional governor Awa FONKA AUGUSTINE had on August 24, 2022 announced the arrival of rains above 280 milimeters resulting in floods and landslides in risk zones in the Menoua, Bamboutos and part of the Mifi divisions.
In the communiqué he also announced the outbreak of diseases such as typhoid, cholera, Malaria, flu and fever.
