Atanga Nji goes hard on bike riders, taxi drivers causing insecurity
The recent remark made by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji comparing law breakers to “ingredients being blended in a Moulinex” blender has sparked several controversies.
Minister Paul Atanga Nji on September 26, 2023, while addressing taxi drivers and motorbike trade unions sternly warned all bike riders, taxi and truck drivers engaging in criminal activities to be ready to face the law.
While noting that they pose a significant threat to the safety and well-being of citizens he compared the concept of maintaining order to a”Moulinex” blender with criminals being the ingredients.
“I would like to tell them that keeping order is the Moulinex and the culprits are the spices,” he stated.
This is not the first time that the official’s declaration has sparked controversy. In September 2020, the Minister went against political parties and actors attempting to stop regional elections from holding. He highlighted that any person who stepped out to take part in a protest march would be joking with a beehive: “ I want to sound a stern warning to unscrupulous politicians, looking for cheap popularity, with a hidden agenda aimed at disrupting the electoral process, that they will face the law,” he had stated.
Again, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the second semi-annual conference of regional Governors in December 2021, Paul Atanga Nji had sent out another warning, this time to the President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement political party, Maurice Kamto:
“If he wants to serve us the wind, we will serve him the storm and if he wants to serve us the storm we will serve him the tsunami…To fight, you have to have hands and feet,” Atanga Nji had said.
