40 Migrants including Cameroonians go missing off Mediterranean sea

At least 40 migrants have gone missing,  6 dead and 10 rescued when a boat transporting migrants capsized off the Mediterranean sea on Tuesday March 18, CNA learned.

Among the 56 migrants onboard, were mostly Cameroonians, Ivorians and Malians who were   heading towards Italy for greener pastures.

CNA learned that Cameroonians were more than 10, among the missing.

“The deaths in the Mediterranean of those who set out in search of a more dignified future point a finger towards our own inability to imagine a future capable of giving hope and horizons of life,” said Father Marco Pagniello, the director of the Italian unit for the Catholic church-run charity Caritas, per The Guardian.

Citing data from the International Organization for Migration, Frontex says 248 people have died trying to cross the Eastern Mediterranean in January and February 2025.

A Cameroonian in Tunisia told CNA in s voice note that Cameroonians were about 17 and have all gone missing.

The boat carried 56 when it departed Tunisia, according to survivors
