ASCUDA raises over 16.5 M for Ashong water network

Water will soon flow in Ashong. One of twenty-two villages of the Moghamo clan, administratively united as Batibo in the Momo Division of the North West region.
This follows the mobilisation of over 16.5 million fcfa francs during a fundraising organized in Mutengene on November 9, 2024. The cultural raiser which had the physical participation of the Fon of Ashong, HRM Mbafor III was coordinated by executives of the Ashong Cultural and Development Association, ASCUDA led by Mr Timben John.
The village which prides itself as the second largest in the clan interms of geographical landscape, has had to face distant availability of water. Sometimes unavailable or in doubtful state, igniting the project.
Fon Mbafor III Christopher Mbah is convinced of the old adage, “water is life”. He also stated that, “the present exco have been doing a marvelous job and no project can mobilize people like water”. With over sixty persons from the land of Ashong present, the Fon indicated it was a show of their solidarity and committment towards the endeavor. Which he believes will transform the lives of his community members.
The Ashong women are not left out. They are putting in their resources to bring the 41 year old initiative to fruition. Ashong Women’s Social Cultural and Development Association, AWOSCUDA, is led by Teboh Magdalene. She noted that “the women are the first beneficiaries of the project. To carryon domestic and farm work”.
With a budget of over 50 million needed, the raiser continuous with the redeeming of pledges and other contributions. The project officials say what has already been put together will be used in the first phase which targets schools and hospitals in the grass field locality.
The fund raising served as a platform for Ashong to celebrate their culture in their traditional attires/meals, mother tongue, and native dances. Having the honor of the highest authority of their land, the fon, in the festivities.
