Artist Mimie, Empire company soon in legal punches?
By Nange Mbehni
Cameroonian artist Melanie Ngoga, who goes by the stage name Mimie has cut ties with Empire Company following a new partnership the artist is said to have signed with Believe France-music distribution company.
In a press release signed by Empire Company, Mimie’s contract with them has not ended, and the signatory threatens to sue Believe France, the artist’s newly endorsed partner.
Reacting to the former press release, Mimie’s lawyer, Nguiyan informed the public that Mimie’s contract with Empire had ended.
The lawyer reveals that the artist’s five years contract with Empire Company expired on July 12, 2022. The document also revealed that Mimie had made known to Empire Company that there will be no extension of the contract, based on the following reasons:
- Empire Company has not produced any album of the 25 songs recorded.
- In five years, Mimie has not received either royalties or remuneration.
- The groups, Empire Company and Universal Music Africa used the artist’s image to induce commissions contrary to what she had signed before joining the company.
These were revealed to be the reasons for her breaking away from Empire Company.
He, therefore, informs Believe France and potential partners that the artist is free.
But Empire Company said statements from Mimie and her team are merely vindicative, promising to meet in court.
