Muyuka: population begs fighters to drop weapons

The people of Muyuka, in the South West region of Cameroon have called on the youth who are still in the bushes to drop their weapons and give peace a chance.

Reacting to President Paul Biya’s message to the youth, inhabitants of Muyuka pleaded that the young people heed to Biya’s counsel.

“I feel like the message was a wake-up call to all the youths in Muyuka to drop their arms and try seeing how to rebuild Muyuka again after long years of suffering,” Adolph Lambert, a Muyuka inhabitant said.

In almost all regions and subdivisions, a good numbe rof young people answered present at marching venues but this was not the case in the Muyuka sub division where no student could be seen.

“ We were all really praying and hoping to see a massive turnout during the 11th of February youth day celebration to use it as a sign of peace returning to Muyuka but when that day came, everyone was still in much fear and even deeper fear of going close to the grand stand. A grand stand that since it was built, we have never had the chance to enjoy it. This alone clearly shows that Muyuka has no peace yet. We want our youths to drop their weapons. We want to start enjoying festivities again in Muyuka,” Alan Theodore a, CPDM member said.

“I will advice Muyuka youths to talk their friends in the bushes to drop the guns and let things return back to normal and I’m open to them. They can call for a meeting with me anytime I am like their father and together, let us build Muyuka again just like I have been struggling to,” the Mayor of Muyuka subdivision said.

The Muyuka people recall instances of terror mounted on them by their own children and how they abandoned their farms where they cultivated cassava and other food items and this led to an increase in the prices of foodstuff. They are now asking that all parties involved consider coming to the negotiation table to seek solutions to the currrent socio-political crisis so that peace can return to the English-speaking regions.
