An Open Letter to Jean Nkuete: “Biya is very free to resign, he has not been tied to the presidency.”

Dear Mr. Nkuete,
Your recent statement, which you signed as CPDM secretary general, resorting to your party’s age-old tactic of threats and political intimidation, must be pushed back against by rational Cameroonians. Sir, you give the impression that only you, Biya, and your CPDM party stalwarts love Cameroon, and everyone else who challenges your dismal leadership of Cameroon is being “disrespectful” and “unpatriotic”. You know pretty well that this is not true.
In a democratic country (or one purporting to be democratic) like Cameroon, leadership is accountable to the people, but you want ZERO accountability for your party and its leader. For you to threaten people who question anything about Biya is a betrayal of those democratic values. However, if Biya feels that the heat is too much for him to handle, he is very free to resign; no one has tied him to the presidency. As a good ally of his, that would be your most patriotic duty: to advise him to step down, take his much-deserved rest after decades of service at the helm of the nation.
Why are you so quick to use threats to intimidate other parties that are legally registered and are not violent?
You spoke of respecting elders, and yes, you are right. Part of respecting elders is helping them to take their rest after they have been working hard and long. But it seems you are bent on working President Biya to exhaustion. It is the likes of you that are a disgrace to this nation, and such lunacy is to be condemned with the fiercest force.
Cameroon is not your property, it is not Biya’s property, and it is certainly not the CPDM’s property. It belongs to all of us, and we have as much of a right to express ourselves about issues that concern us all. Part of being a leader is being able to listen to dissenting voices, and if you’re a leader who feels that he is unanswerable to the people, then it is time for you to quit.
Thank you very much, sir, and have a blessed rest of your week.
