Amateur clubs renew calls for Eto’o to resign seek creation of normalization committee
The Association of Amateur Football Clubs in Cameroon has said the leaked phone call allegedly between Samuel Eto’o and OPOPO President, Valentine Nkwain, is serious and further justifies the need for the FECAFOOT President to resign.
The executive bureau members met in an extraordinary session on Friday, July 21, two weeks after a similar meeting took place to express the same grievances.
In a release made public after Friday’s meeting, the Amateur club presidents said Eto’o’s role in match-fixing within the country’s championships, has been exposed. They regretted the silence of the government and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.
The “complicity” of the whole FECAFOOT executive committee was also highlighted, with calls for all members to resign.
The ACFAC executive bureau delegated the president, Balla Ongolo Henri, to ask FIFA to set up a normalization committee to oversee the activities of FECAFOOT.
A normalization committee last steered affairs at the federation between September 2017 and December 2018, headed by Dieudonne Happi.
Amateur club presidents believe Cameroon football is in danger and needs to be saved from the Eto’o administration.
The FECAFOOT President’s phone conversation with the President of Victoria United was leaked on July 18. However, ‘OPOPO’ has denied the authenticity of the recording.
