NW Regional Delegate of secondary education wages war on absentee teachers

The Regional Delegate of secondary education in the North West region has called on Divisional Delegates and some school principals to forward the list and documents of absentee teachers to his delegation.

In a press release recently signed by Ngwang Roland, he demands that the documents should reach his office latest by February 10, 2023 for disciplinary actions to be taken.

According to the Regional Delegate, many teachers have decided to abandoned their classrooms since the second term resumed.

“A significant number of the teachers have so far refused to effectively resume duty as confirmed by the lists submitted to hierarchy without genuine justifiable and documented excuses”.

He adds that even those teachers who managed to resume do not go class, and even if they do go, they give poor lectures to students.

Ngwang Roland in the same press release said since the start of the school year, some teachers have bribed school administrators and stayed in their comfort zones without reporting to their duty stations.

The North West secondary education boss said this has resulted in the poor performance of students in public exams and many students have decided to go for extra classes just to cover up.

In 2022 hundreds of teachers’ salaries were suspended in the North West region due to absence from work and most of them advanced insecurity as their reason for staying away.

After 6 months spent without salaries, authorities warned them and said nothing would be done if the situation were to repeat itself.
