Agbor Balla foresees end of Biya era
Cameroon-born international human rights advocate Barrister Agbor Nkongho Balla predicts the end of the Biya regime following recent statements by the Minister of Territorial Administration (MINAT).
Barrister Agbor Felix Nkongho, founder of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA), shared his analysis on May 26 via his official Facebook account, titling his observation “The Masses Shall Not Be Bullied.”
The prominent human rights defender asserted, “In their desperation, they will ban political alliances, discourage citizens from registering in the electoral register and even threaten those encouraging citizens to register, they will clamp down on freedom of assembly, violate our freedom of expression and proscribe citizens from using certain words.”
Having himself faced arrest and detention due to the ongoing Anglophone crisis, Balla emphasized that the Minister of Territorial Administration’s threats to change advocates won’t intimidate the populace.
He interpreted the responses from state authorities as a sign that “the Champagne party is coming to an end. The people will triumph, and there will be euphoria and joy in the land.”
Meanwhile, despite calls from some Cameroonians for him to stand in upcoming presidential elections, Balla declined, citing his advocacy role at CHRDA as his priority.
