After serving 16th months, court sets No Pity’s girlfriend free

Kongnso Antoinette, former girlfriend to Ambazonian “General” No Pity of Bambalang has been freed after spending sixteen months incarcerated.

The verdict was passed on the 32-year-old native of Banso on Wednesday February 15, 2023 by the Buea military tribunal in the South West region.

She was sentenced for sixteen months for failing to report a terrorist to authorities but the breastfeeding mother had already spent over 16 months at the Buea central prison, where she was awaiting trial.

Apart from the sixteen months imprisonment, the victim was also fined F CFA 65,000.

According to her lawyer, Barrister Tamfou Richard, what is left at the moment is for her to pay the F CFA 65,000 fine and be set free.

Kongnso Antoinette was arrested and detained at the Buea central prison since October 8, 2021. She was accused by BIR soldier and traditional ruler, Moja Moja and charged with secession and terrorism for being in a relationship with Mbashie Clement popularly known as No Pity, who has been known for kidnapping, attacking and killing state forces.

At the time of her arrest, she was pregnant but had the baby while in detention.

Her case witnessed several adjournments since 2021 until February 2023. She was only found guilty of not reporting the acts of her former boyfriend to authorities, according to the verdict.

Mbashie Clement is one amongst the several leaders of a separatist group in Ngoketunjia division. He is noted for launching several deadly attacks on the Cameroonian soldiers in Ngoketunjia, Donga Mantung and Bui divisions in the past years.
