After coffee, MINADER to boost rice sector

The Government of Cameroon says national rice production might witness a yearly increase of 10%.
The remark was made by Gabriel Mbairobe of agriculture and rural development on Wednesday September 13 as he launched the Rice Value Chain Development Project in Yaounde in presence of Gregory Muluh Nguh, the project’s national coordinator.
This project that is expected to run for a period of 5 years, has as objective to produce 750,000 tons yearly by 2030 and will cost the state of Cameroon the sum of F CFA 122 billion,600 million to be jointly financed by the BADEA, OPEC, Kuwait, the Islamic development bank and the Cameroon government. The project will be carried out in three regions of Cameroon which are the Ndop plain, the Mbonso plain and the Tingoh valley in the North West Region, Bangourain and Santchou in the West and the Maga Basin in the Far North.
The project which is aimed at boosting rice production, will also be expected to create about 253,000 jobs.
Added to these economic advantages, the project according to Minister Gabriel Mbairobe, will also lead to the improvement of social amenities such as schools, roads, health centres and potable water.
