After 30 Yrs, Formula 1 – World’s largest car racing sport could make historic comeback to South Africa

South Africa has announced that Formula 1 authorities have “accepted final design proposals” for work which would upgrade Kyalami racing tracks from the FIA’s Grade 2 to the Grade 1 status required for F1.
FIA stands for, and Kyalami is located in the town of Midrand, about 40 minutes outside of Johannesburg.
“Today, we turn the page to a bold new chapter for Kyalami. We are ready for the return of Formula 1 to African soil,” circuit owner Toby Venter was quoted by the Associated Press.
Kyalami, a motor racing circuit with a capacity of 100,000, last hosted the F1 race in Africa in 1993, but other countries are also interested in bringing the series back to the continent as well. According to the
Associated Press, Rwanda is working on its project, and Morocco reportedly has plans too.
South Africa also hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2010 – another major global sporting event, becoming the first African country to do so.
