The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, has expressed deep regret over the recent announcement of the withdrawal of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In a recent communiqué, the Chairperson called for a united effort to preserve the irreplaceable unity of ECOWAS and enhance African solidarity. He urged regional leaders to continue dialogue and intensify their efforts to find a solution to the issue.
The Chairperson further expressed the African Union Commission’s willingness to assist in any way possible to ensure the success of “brotherly dialogue”, free from any external interference.
Similarly, the Nigerian government’s recent expression of sadness over the withdrawal of three ECOWAS member states highlights the importance of regional economic integration in Africa.
According to the Federal government, withdrawing from ECOWAS is letting their people down.
The withdrawal of the three countries from ECOWAS has caused concern among African leaders, with fears that the move could destabilize the region and impact the economic and political integration of West Africa.
