African sides biggest climbers on FIFA ranking after AFCON

African nations have made the biggest strides on the FIFA ranking published on Thursday, February 15.

This comes a few days after the Africa Cup of Nations which took place in Cote d’Ivoire, with the hosts grabbing their third title.

The Elephants moved ten places up to occupy the 39th position. However, the biggest movers are Angola who now sit on the 93rd spot after moving 24 places up. The Antelopes reached the AFCON quarter-finals for the first time since 2010 when they hosted the tournament.

Other countries that improved significantly include Equatorial Guinea (79th up 9), South Africa (58th up 8), Cape Verde (65th up 8), Namibia (107th up 8) and Mali (47th up 4).

Morocco remained first in Africa, occupying the 12th place in the world classification.

The CAF top 10 includes Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Cameroon (51st in the world after dropping five places), and South Africa.

The leading nations on the overall ranking are Argentina, France, England, Belgium, Brazil, and Netherlands.
