African legends reunite to relive 2000 AFCON glory days

By Biwah Bryan

On a classic meeting of legends, players from Cameroon and Nigeria who participated in the 2000 African Nations cup finals recently reunited to reminisce about their glory days.

With the presence of African stars like Samuel Eto’o, Jay Jay Okocha, Julius Aghahowa and others, the event attracted a large crowd of fans to the Limbe Omnisport Stadium, where the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon triumphed over the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a legendary match which ended 3-1.

The game bore a striking resemblance to the 2000 AFCON played 23 years ago as Julius Aghahowa quickly scored for Nigeria, bypassing the goalkeeper and the entire Cameroon defense to set Nigeria for a 1-0 which was however short lived when Samuel Eto’o responded with a goal, thanks to a brilliantly-placed pass from Bernard Tchoutang, to restore parity.

Cameroon later took the lead through Bernard Tchoutang’s opportunistic goal, and Ndip Tambe completed the scoreline of 3-1 in favor of Cameroon.

This game was a genuine testament to Cameroon’s victory over Nigeria in the 2000 African Nations cup which ended in a draw and a win for Cameroon on penalties.
