AFCON 2023: Fecafoot claims fake news spreading about federation, players

The Secretary General of the Cameroon Football Federation, Blaise Djounang said in a communique that the social media has been flooded with fake news about the country’s participation in the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire ranging from the head coach of the senior men’s national team, the team captain and their entire participation in the tournament.

“These crudely crafted fake news stories have the potential to destabilize the national team, its technical staff, and the administrative support staff.

In particular, this malicious enterprise has interfered with the communications regarding the temporary unavailability of Captain Vincent Aboubakar,” He said

The SG also said news about an interview granted by the Fecafoot president, the quarrel between him as well as the exclusion of some players, are all fake.

There were also rumors of a disengagement between top management and some key figures including the spokesperson of Fecafoot president, Ernest Obama.

Fecafoot said this is also fake, explaining that during competitions, staff travel by segments because they have different roles to play at different times.
