AFCON 2021: Host Cameroon Saved By Penalties, Beat Burkina Faso 2-1

Two goals from captain Vincent Aboubakar, were just enough for Cameroon to grab the first three points in Group A against Burkina Faso.

The Stallions opened scores during the 24th minute of play as Gustavo Fabrice Sangare, sent in a header, sending goalkeeper Andre Onana down on the ground as the net trembled to the first goal of the tournament.

But their jubilation was short-lived as Indomitable Lion’s team captain Vincent Aboubakar converted a 36th minute VAR detected penalty into an equalizer.

Cameroon’s captain would later transform another penalty to victory as Cameroon beat Burkina Faso, 2-1 to sit comfortably on the table with three points.

Cameroon shall face Ethiopia on Wednesday, January 13, at the Olembe stadium at 5 PM in a second game.

The acrobatic display with choreographers dressed in flamboyant and conspicuous outfits never went unnoticed as Cameroon unveiled the 2021 AFCON at the Olembe stadium in the Nation’s capital, Yaounde.

A 3D Lion displayed on screens was an innovation. Watched by Presidential Couple, Paul and Chantal Biya, CFA and FIFA Presidents, other personalities, the event ended in pomp and pageantry. Graced at the end by Congolese singer, Fally Ipupa.

Ethiopia and Cape Verde clash int eh second group A game.
