Cameroon News Agency can confirm that a video showing Separatist fighters killing two civilians was recorded in Guzang, Batibo Subdivision in the North West region.
In the video obtained by CNA newsroom on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, two men, the brother of the Fon, Mbanyamsi Hansel also known as “Heavy Son”, and Mbah Calistus, popularly called Aboro, were seen seated on the floor in the square, while denizens gathered around them.
A voice is heard from those recording, ” Good evening all, you people will see what will happen today. I am sending this message to Rene of Batibo ( apparently a military commander in the area)…these men seated here, plus those hiding, we will find them, one after the other…go and tell Rene to come and bury them…”
Then they fired shots at close range, killing the two civilians, ” That one is not yet dead”, a voice is heard in the background, while another separatist fired the last shots.

Meantime, the population that gathered to hear the message dispersed in diverse ranks, panic-stricken.
“The incident happened around 4:30 PM on Wednesday afternoon. ADF fighters picked them up from their homes. One is a Prince while another is a poultry farmer…they shot them and said let the military bury them. They said the men were collaborating with the Cameroon military. ” A witness told CNA.
“They are from ADF, the boys of Big Number,” he noted.
Big number is the supreme commander of the Amabzonia Defense Forces, an armed group fighting for the independence of the North West and South West regions, which they call, Ambazonia.
Asu Lucas, the spokesperson for the Ambazonia Governing Council, whose armed wing, ADF carried out the killing said, “Today two collaborators associated with a BIR commander called Rene have been publicly executed. This must send a strong warning to all those who spy and collaborate with Cameroun.”
Since 2016, the Separatists have been fighting the central government following a peaceful protest by teachers and lawyers but was responded with a crackdown on their activities, including arrests, killing, and torture.
The separatists say they created armed groups for self-defense but the Cameroon government has maintained that there is one, indivisible Cameroon, describing the separatists as terrorist groups.
