NWSW regions: About 3,600 persons displaced in July- OCHA
A recent report from the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA reveals that in July 2023 about 3,655 internally displaced persons were recorded in the Northwest and Southwest regions due to the Anglophone crisis.
According to the UN, the largest number of displaced persons were from the Meme, Manyu, and Fako divisions in the South-West and the Mezam and Bui, divisions in the North-West region while noting that the Anglophone conflict has continued to put the lives of the population at risk.
“The ongoing clashes, the activities of armed groups, and military operations have continued to put the population at risk and have caused frequent travel to the forest and neighboring cities to take shelter,” OCHA stated.
Statistics show since 2017 over 1.7 million persons have been in need of humanitarian assistance. Amongst them, more than 638,000 are internally displaced, 87,000 are refugees in neighboring Nigeria and more than 442,000 persons are unable to return home.
The report also revealed that access to humanitarian aid remains a problem in the Northwest and Southwest. The UN calls on other humanitarian partners to make constant commitments to reach affected populations in the Northwest and Southwest regions.
