A Cameroonian drowns trying to rescue friend in Canada

Timneu Feuzeu Kevin, a Cameroonian living in Canada has died after diving into a river in a rescue attempt.

Reports confirm that Kevin and his friends, all students at the Laval University of Quebec, Canada, were taking a walk on the Saint Charles river bridge when Christelle Marielle Kouass, an Ivorian lady, suddenly slipped and fell into the cold river.

Although the waters looked calm, the flow of the river is known to be particularly intense during this period of the year: six times higher than usual. Kevin immediately dived in to rescue Christelle but failed and both students drowned.

Divers from the Quebec nautical teams, search dogs, foot patrollers and helicopters were called to the rescue and so far, only Kevin’s body has been retrieved from the river. He was found under water a few hundred meters from the bridge where he had dived, four days after the incident.

Statistics have it that 41% of cases involving drowning in Canada come from this river and this most often happens during this season of the year. The search is still ongoing for the retrieval of Christelle’s body.
