Victoria United President accused of torturing goalkeeper over lost matches
Victoria United President Valentine Nkwain, has come under hard criticism following accusations of torture and pain inflicted on the club’s goalkeeper, Djomeni Eric.
Reports indicate that Djomeni has been interrogated over the club’s recent string of defeats in the Elite One.
It is not clear in what way the goalkeeper has been involved in the club’s decline, but the treatment he is said to have been subjected to has raised public concern.
In a viral video, a woman said to be the player’s mother is seen being chased out of the premises of the club President’s residence in Limbe.
The club in an official statement has denied the claims, saying it is an attempt to “damage the reputation of the team.”
Victoria United defeated Union Sportive of Douala 2-1 in their last match, ending a five-match winless streak. With the current poor performance thirteen match days into the season, it is unlikely the Elite One reigning champions will be able to defend their title.
