Douala: Jilted woman allegedly stabs lover to death for ending 3-month affair

By Synthia Lateu

When 36-year-old Omang Botsa met 25-year-old Vitore Mbabang in December, he fell hard for her. He thought he had found the love of his life. Vitoire was a beautiful woman but behind her outward charm, lay a dark, sinister side that the unassuming Omang didn’t know would cost him his life barely three months into their relationship.
On February 15, after a night of partying and drinking, the couple returned home and an exhausted Omang fell fast asleep but his lover Vitoire was hatching a diabolical plan. At about 2AM in the most unholy hour of the night, Vitoire pulled a kitchen knife and stabbed the man she claimed to love, multiple times.
Omang Botsa’s aunt,Marie, stricken with unfathomable grief, recalls his frail voice calling for help on that night after the stabbing. Marie sat in the family compound in the Pozam neighborhood of Douala III on Monday afternoon, still in shock over the tragic scene.
“He shouted, ‘Mum, save me! Aunty, save me! She has killed me!’ while knocking at the door, Marie told CNA. “I heard it as though it was a dream as I lay in the living room… As I opened the door, he fell on me, and blood was oozing. I called some children for help, but when we got to the hospital entrance, he died,” she recounts.
Other family members and neighbours gathered with somber faces, staring at the only reminder of Omang: a picture of him hanging on his aunt’s window, a house near the couple’s room. According to the Omang’s younger sister, Larissa, his lover, identified as Vitoir, stabbed him multiple times while he was asleep on the couch in their room. The family reports that the two had spent the day together and returned home late after having drinks at a bar.
Although no significant alarms had been raised about the couple’s relationship, the family now reflects on small red flags that they regret not addressing.
“They were together all day, but children told me that around midday, she threatened him with a knife. Some little children in the neighborhood shared this with us after he had died,” Marie said.
“Last week, while I was traveling, she sent me urgent messages saying she was about to break up with my brother. She claimed she couldn’t support him anymore and mentioned that the devil was winning over her,” Larissa added.
At the doorstep of Oman’s room, Vitoire’s luggage remained. The deceased’s other younger sister, Synthia Tuekam, said the victim had told her to leave his home. She carried her belongings to the companion’s aunt, who stated she couldn’t let her in and recommended that she fix things with Omang.
Vitoire, according to the deceased’s younger sister refused to accept the companion was putting an affiliate (what do you mean here? Clarify in simple terms) to their relationship, reason why she decided to kill him. She had a two-year-old child whom she brought to Oman’s home, but it’s reported that she took the child away a week before the incident.
“My brother had told her to leave, but she started to blackmail him with food (what does this mean?) and other things. She would stay out late or spend nights away. He had become the babysitter for the child,” Larissa narrated.
In the neighborhood, Oman is remembered as gentle and kind, despite being involved in taekwondo. At press time, the victim’s body has been taken to the L’Aquintinie Mortuary, while Vitoire reportedly surrendered to the police following pressure from her sister, as she had fled from the crime scene after the stabbing.
