The Minister of Territorial Administration (MINAT), Paul Atanga Nji said government will not toletate offensive behavior from politicians in 2025. He equally stated that NGOs and churches which do not put themselves in order with existing rules, will face the arm of the law.
The MINAT boss was speaking in Yaounde, December 19 at the close of the second bi-annual conference of Governors. The meeting which commenced on December 18 held under the theme; “Administrative authorities: security challenges and proper execution of development projects”.
Minister Atanga Nji referenced three viral social media videos in his closing address. That of a fake pastor who caused the death of someone, banned NGO leader speaking to press and politician agitating in another. He said the upcoming year will be one where these excesses will meet punitive measures. January 15, 2025 is deadline for illegal churches to close down, while January 30 the same year is the deadline for NGOs to submit annual report of activities and funds, the minister announced.
He warned media outlets not to endulge in personal attacks, unfounded accusations, which cost peace and harass the person of President Paul Biya whom he described as the architect of Cameroon democracy. Mindful of the nature of 2025 characterised by presidential elections, the MINAT minister advised for strict respect of law and order.
“Respect yourself and you will be respected by the administrative authorities,” Atanga Nji said. Adding that, the image and integrity of the nation was incumbent on all to protect. Paul Atanga Nji charged the ten regional governors to remain vigilant.
