Bamessing elites throw weight behind ruler, say separatist fighters must leave
Those who hail from Bamessing village, located in Ngoketundjia division in the North West region, have said their traditional ruler is right to have given an ultimatum to Ambazonia Separatist fighters to leave the village by December 31, 2024.
Ambazonia fighters came to the limelight in 2017 when the Anglophone crisis became an armed struggle with leaders from the North West and South West regions, creating different armed groups to fight for independence.
Seven years on, the traditional ruler of Bamessing, His Royal Highness, Fon Richard Muntong III, said the fighters in his village are causing more harm to the people than fighting for them.
The Nsei people said they are resolute! The separatists must leave the village as demanded by their ruler in a release dated December 11, 2024.
In an enlarged meeting that also accommodated virtual presence, on December 18, the indigenes said their ruler was right to have made such orders because the fighters have been allegedly causing atrocities such as killing locals, theft, and destruction of properties, among others.
On December 16, a leader of a separatist faction, Chris Anu, said that he was surprised that the ruler made such threats, reminding him that they carried arms to fight against the government and not civilians.
But a source told CNA that the Fon will perform traditional rites that will strike anyone in the village who identifies himself as a separatist fighter.
