Subsidy crisis: Club presidents challenge FECAFOOT, turn to sports ministry

Elite One and Two club presidents have requested that their subsidies be paid directly into their accounts instead of passing through the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

Their demands follow numerous complaints over unpaid club subsidies by the federation for several years, which has prevented them from paying player bonuses, salaries, and meeting other obligations.

In response to the complaints from club presidents, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, has instructed the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, to address the situation and ease tensions.

In a series of correspondences signed recently, the minister invited the club presidents to a consultation meeting scheduled at his ministry on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

The meeting will focus on the government’s subsidy for the Elite One and Two championships, totaling over 360 million FCFA.

FECAFOOT recently disbursed 5 million FCFA to Elite teams for the preparation of the ongoing football season, after soliciting 500 million FCFA from the government to support the season’s preparations.
