Tamfu-Gendarmerie saga: Self investigations implicates lawyer
In an investigation carried out by the same accused person, the Gendarmerie in Littoral, the majority of the blame falls on Barrister Tamfu Richard who was brutalized by Gendarmes in Douala on November 27, 2024.
The Secretary of State at the Ministry of defence in charge of the national gendarmerie, Galaxy Etoa had given 72 hours for investigation to be conducted and findings brought to him.
This follows a video that went viral on social media where gendarmes were seen smashing the lawyer who was in a Pickup vehicle. The lawyer had resisted the arrest of his client in a civil case,arguing that summons does not mean arrest.
But investigations shows that the gendarmerie abused their , violated their assignment instructions and committed minor injuries on the lawyer.
On the part of the lawyer, findings from the Second Gendarmerie Legion in Littoral, shows that there was violence against civil servants, destruction of military equipment, obstruction of justice, rebellion and insults.
The findings have been transmitted to the Secretary of State for decisions to be taken.
Meanwhile critics hold that the Gendarmerie cannot independently investigate a case that also implicates them, fearing there could be a biased conclusion in the matter.
