Littoral : Mother, 4-month-old twins die in suspected food poisoning

A nursing mother and her four-month-old twins have tragically died in Melong, Littoral region under suspicious circumstances. The family reportedly consumed a meal offered by a neighbour before the incident occurred on the night of November 25, 2024. The dish, known locally as “pilé,” made with beans and plantains, was the last meal the victims are said to have eaten.
The tragedy began unfolding around 10 p.m. when the mother and her children went to bed after dinner. According to the brother-in-law of the deceased mother, he was alarmed a few minutes later by the piercing cries of one of the twins. Despite his swift actions to seek help, the mother and her children could not be saved.
Medical personnel from the Melong District Hospital were called to the scene to examine the situation. Preliminary findings suggest that food poisoning might have been the cause of death. An investigation has been opened, and the bodies have been transferred to the morgue.
Meanwhile the family is left inconsolable, grappling with the sudden loss, and Melong residents are in shock
