Owners of private health facilities urged to strictly respect provisions of labour code

By Stephen TADAHA

Owners of private health facilities in Cameroon have been instructed to fully respect the provisions of the country’s labour code. The instructions were given by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie in a press release.

This follows a nationwide visit of health facilities carried out over a three-month period this year.

The instruction particularly concerns the payment of decent salaries to nursing and medical staff, as well as their registration with the Social Security.

The minister’s census revealed that several proprietors in the private sector did not respect the principles in force in the management of these structures. Malachie Manaouda warned the owners concerned, promising to take action, though he did not specify the nature of the sanctions.

The minister also noted that this problem is not limited to private health facilities. The census revealed some irregularities in public health facilities.
