Mamfe Mayor begs authorities to rehabilitate burnt hospital after two years

By Nchendzengang Tatah

Manyu Division of the South West continues to suffer deteriorating health care. Little has been done to make for a standard medical facility for two years now. Following the burning of the Mamfe district hospital by suspected separatists fighters in 2022.

The Mayor of Mamfe, Robertson Tabenchong Ashu said many persons have died due to inappropriate or unavailable medical care in the area, necessitating an urgent need for government action.

“We are still lamenting and the situation is the same. But for some two structures that the Regional Assembly has awarded in a contract,” Mayor Tabenchong said. Adding that, the awarded project which includes a theatre and children’s ward will not cover the needs of the local population.

“People are suffering and dying, because we don’t have a medical facility in Manyu. You’ll be referred if any complication to other places like Kumba. We have cases where the patients die on the way,” he regretted.

Robertson Tabenchong also decried the state of roads, coupled with the current security concerns which make movement for medical attention tedious. He appealed that, the ongoing reconstruction of the North West and South West should prioritise such a need.
