Paris 2024: No medal for Cameroon’s Paralympians
The curtain has fallen on Cameroon’s 2024 Paralympic campaign in Paris, with the country’s five-athlete team falling short of the medal podium in the competition which was held in Paris from August 28 to September 8.
Led by flag bearer Batifi Loumou, the Cameroon delegation participated in five disciplines including para-high jump, para-Taekwondo, para-shot put, discuss throw, and powerlifting.
Batifi Loumou, Cameroon’s sole male representative, made a notable impact in the high jump event, setting a new Area Record. However, his impressive performance was not enough to secure a medal, as he finished 5th overall.
Chemogne Teukam, the first Cameroonian athlete to compete was eliminated in the first round, Dassi Marie Antoinette fared better in Taekwondo. She advanced to the semifinals, where she lost.
The final hope for Cameroon rested on Mengue Thamar Gisèle, the last athlete to compete. She took part in powerlifting, but finished 5th, just shy of the medal podium.
Of all the African countries who participated in the competition, only 10 managed to secure at least one medal. Algeria topped the African medal table with 11 medals, followed closely by Tunisia, Morocco, Nigeria, and Egypt.
