Prominent Bamenda community leader responding to bullet wound treatment
A prominent businessman and community leader, Asanji Melvin Tening, narrowly escaped death after being shot multiple times in Bamenda on Saturday. Tening, who is also the General Youth President of Nkwen Youth Association and CEO of Asanji Group of Companies, was returning home from a fundraising event in Mile 6 when the incident occurred.
According to the victim, two gunmen on a motorcycle trailed Tening’s vehicle before opening fire. The businessman was struck by two bullets, one in the left arm and another that passed through his lips. Losing control of the car, he drove the car into a nearby compound before escaping into the bushes.
A group of residents, with motorcycles, later rescued Tening and rushed him to PMI Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the General Hospital in an ambulance where he underwent surgery on Sunday to remove a bullet lodged in his arm. Tening is also said to have sustained a fractured bone.
