Reversal of responsibility? ADF backtracks on burning Cameroonian soldier’s residence

Limbe Cameroon (CNA)– The Ambazonia Defense Forces (ADF), a separatist armed group active in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon has issued a statement denying responsibility for burning a soldier’s residence in Cameroon.

The news comes after reports emerged earlier this week alleging the ADF was behind the attack on the residence of a controversial former BIR member who was demoted to the rank of a normal soldier, Ewume John Eko, also known in his traditional village as Moja Moja.

“ACN can now confirm that no ADF soldier was involved in this moja moja house fire says ADF SG – it seems to have been a staged incident by the handlers of moja moja to gain his release from his new home inside LRC( Cameroon) bunker” reads the statement, which was circulated through the separatist-linked channels, Ambazonia XOmmunication Network.

The authenticity of the statement was verified by CNA newsroom.

The Cameroonian government has not yet commented on the ADF’s denial, nor of the fire incident which many have come to terms it was probably staged to gain the attention of Cameroon authorities who have kept Moja Moja in jail since he declared that some top soldiers were planning a military coup in Cameroon.

Ewume John Eko was a member of the Cameroon Rapid Intervention Battalion, an Elite force created in 2007. But over the years he did not live up to expectations as he dragged the force in the mud by making xenophobic attacks, violating human rights, and carrying out acts against humanity in Buea, South West region.

He was demoted this year and sent to the 21st Infantry Battalion but his agitation and media outing led to his arrest after the claimed that he was demoted because he refused to take part in a military coup in Cameroon.
