Bus fire in Maroua claims Seven lives
Maroua, Cameroon ( CNA)– A horrific bus fire on Tuesday in Maroua, Far North Region, has left seven people dead and 13 others injured.
The Djama travel agency minibus, carrying 20 passengers from Maroua to Pous in Mayo-Danaï Division, caught fire near Djiddel in Bogo Subdivision. Flames engulfed the vehicle suddenly, trapping seven people on board.
Thirteen passengers managed to escape the burning bus with injuries and were rushed to the Maroua Regional Hospital. Among the deceased are a woman and her six-year-old child, a 10-year-old girl, and another woman with a one-year-old baby.
“The seven passengers were completely burnt beyond recognition,” reported a media correspondent.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Local authorities, led by the SDO for the Diamaré Division, were present as the remains of the victims were buried according to Muslim tradition.
