Truck pusher wrongfully detained: Family unable to visit due to distance and poverty”

In September 2023, Njo Ignatius, a truck pusher in Commercial Avenue, Bamenda, North West region, received a call from a friend about a job opportunity as a driver assistant to accompany a Truck driver to Mboppi, a commercial hub in the economic capital, Douala.

“The original “motorboy” for the cargo had fallen ill, and with an impending lockdown in Bamenda, Ignatius saw this as a chance to earn extra income. They loaded goods at Mboppi main market destined for Bamenda, but en route, they were halted in Bafoussam where military uniforms were discovered in the vehicle. Both were apprehended.”Someone who knows the case narrated to CNA.

CNA learned that Ignatius has been incarcerated since then, with no family members having visited him.

“His mother, residing in a remote village, cannot travel from Nso to Bafoussam. He also left behind a girlfriend and a four-month-old baby in Bamenda. We urge the media to raise awareness about his situation in the hope of finding assistance.” the source added.
