West region has been stable for past 6 months-Governor

By Stephen Tadaha

FOUMBAN, Cameroon (CNA) — The West Region of Cameroon has been relatively calm since the start of 2024, despite security threats in some areas, Governor Awa Fonka Augustine said on Tuesday.

Augustine made the remarks during a two-day regional administrative and security coordination meeting, which gathered all eight senior divisional officers and security officials of the region in Foumban, Noun Division.

Security-wise, Augustine affirmed that despite threats from the neighboring North West and South West regions, the West Region has remained relatively peaceful.

“I can reassure you that all is well in the West Region, but that does not mean we should fold our arms. We have to be vigilant because the region has been witnessing security threats like kidnappings, especially in zones bordering the crisis-hit regions,” he said.

In terms of infrastructure, Augustine noted that the region has been under continuous reconstruction with multiple development projects underway.

“There are roads under construction. Others have already been completed and received, and many more road projects are coming up,” Augustine added.

Since January, there has been significant cultural activity in the region, with numerous cultural festivals organized in various localities.

“We’ve had and will continue to have many festivals in the region, which have highlighted its touristic potential,” Augustine said.

As a recommendation, Augustine urged administrative authorities to closely monitor civil servants who abandon their duty posts.
