Hon. Nourane Foster threatens to withdraw from politics amid intimidation claims

YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon (CNA) — Businesswoman and Member of Parliament for the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN), Hon. Nourane Foster, has threatened to withdraw from the political scene, citing intimidation by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji.
In a comment under a Facebook post written on her official handle, Hon. Foster expressed her concerns over recent actions and warnings issued by the MINAT boss, particularly targeting fellow MP and her party. “The preamble of our Constitution clearly states that national sovereignty belongs to the Cameroonian people, who exercise it through the President of the Republic and the members of Parliament,” she stated. “A Member of Parliament represents the Nation and has the right to address Cameroonians. Why this warning?”
Foster emphasized her frustration with the current political climate, suggesting that the actions of some individuals within the government are obstructing the democratic process. “What is being prepared with the complicity of certain individuals is beyond my comprehension,” she said. “Due to these intimidations, starting today, I do not exclude the possibility of withdrawing from the Cameroonian political scene.”
This announcement follows recent accusations by the Minister of Territorial Administration against MP Cabral Libii, who was warned to cease making disrespectful remarks about the Head of State. Additionally, Maurice Kamto has also been threatened by the same minister. Atanga Nji specified that the phrase “Cameroonians, my dear compatriots” is reserved exclusively for the President of the Republic, warning that “those who violate this should beware.”
