By Charity Nginyu

Outrage and calls for justice have surged across Nigeria following the death of a 14-year-old girl, Shallon Ebitare, in a hotel room located in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

The Nigeria Police Force Bayelsa State Command, according to Sahara Reporters revealed that Shallon had tragically passed away in the company of her 17-year-old partner, Lucky Okubo.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has sparked widespread condemnation and demands for accountability as details surrounding Shallon’s death continue to emerge.

Reports indicate that the young couple had checked into a hotel room in Yenagoa, only for Shallon to collapse and lose her life in the bathroom.

Nigerians from all walks of life have expressed shock and dismay at the circumstances surrounding Shallon’s untimely demise, with many questioning the hotel’s role in allowing minors to access their premises without proper consent or supervision.

“How do you look at a 17-year-old and sell him the room? Now he is even accompanied by a 14-year-old…this is somehow,” remarked Edgar Legatt.

“Shut down the hotel for accommodation of minors without consent from parents,” demanded Elee, another concerned Nigerian.

Moreover, concerns over parental responsibility and upbringing have also come to the forefront, with many lamenting the lack of oversight and guidance that may have contributed to the unfortunate events.

“Lack of parental responsibility and upbringing. This is very unfortunate that they’re both minors,” stated Terry, highlighting the need for greater awareness and accountability among families.

As authorities continue their investigations into the circumstances surrounding Shallon’s death, the clamor for justice and reform grows louder, with calls for stricter enforcement measures to safeguard the welfare of minors and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
