Mercy Chinwo, husband sue social media users over paternity allegations

Nigerian gospel sensation Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa, have taken legal action against five social media users for criminal defamation following allegations that gospel musician Nathaniel Bassey fathered their child.
The couple filed the lawsuit citing violations of Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24(1)(B) of the Cybercrimes Act 2015.
Documents obtained by Channels TV revealed the seriousness of the complaint, as the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has summoned the accused individuals for “criminal defamation” against Chinwo and Uzochikwa.
The social media users named in the lawsuit are Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie.
The controversy sparked after Chinwo shared photos of her recently born child on social media, prompting speculations about the child’s resemblance to Nathaniel Bassey rather than her husband.
However, the couple has refuted these claims, emphasizing the damaging impact of such rumors on their reputation and family life.
Chinwo, known for her powerful vocals and inspirational lyrics, has in the past years garnered a large following in the Nigerian gospel music scene.
