Controversy surrounds President Tinubu’s order for Military invasion of Delta

By Charity Nginyu

President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Nigerian Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff to pursue justice for the killing of 16 military personnel in Okuoma community, Delta State, has ignited a firestorm of controversy.

The soldiers, including a Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion in Bomadi Local Government Area, were ambushed and murdered by irate youths while on a peace mission in Okuoma.

Following the tragic incident, viral videos depicting houses engulfed in flames have surfaced, suggesting a retaliatory military action supposedly ordered by Tinubu.

These visuals have fueled speculation and raised concerns about the potential targeting of innocent civilians in Okuoma community under the guise of seeking justice for the fallen soldiers.

While Tinubu’s directive aimed at bringing the perpetrators to account, some voices assert that it was a thinly veiled attempt to escalate violence and perpetrate further harm in the community.

The Nigerian military, however, vehemently denies carrying out any reprisal against Okuoma, emphasizing their commitment to a fair and impartial investigation into the soldiers’ deaths.

Despite the military’s denial, doubts persist among some quarters regarding the true nature of events and the underlying motives behind Tinubu’s order.
