WDC aparthotel owner charged with fraud in US
Several media reports including Bloomberg, revealed that the owner of the WDC Aparthotel in Buea, Subdivision, Wilson Da Costa, is under investigation for fraud of more than 1 billion USD.
The former Executive at General Electric Co. was charged with fraud over allegations that he used forged documents to coax the government of Angola into terminating contracts with another company for a USD1.1 billion power and water project.
Reports also said Wilson Daniel Freita Da Costa appeared before judges at the federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
He is facing a four-count indictment of fraud and identity theft. The WDC aparthotel owner was arrested at the Los Angeles Airport after traveling to the US to sell 20kg of gold in October 2023.
Reports further state that his arrest comes after a long-run dispute between General Electric and Portuguese-owned infrastructure firm, Aenergy SA.
His Attorney has said his client will defend the charges against him.
