Some meals to consider cooking this Christmas

It is a few weeks until Christmas, many are wondering what they will put on their table for the family and visitors. Well, relax, CNA has some suggestions.

Christmas is one of the most important days of the year in Cameroon. The country is said to have a total of 70% Christians, which makes it a widely celebrated event throughout the nation.

When a country is as culturally and geographically diverse as Cameroon, you can guarantee that celebrations will be utterly unique. This uniqueness comes with the different dishes the country prides itself on.

CNA suggests five amazing meal ideas you would love to try out on Christmas day with your family.

The most common Christmas dinner you may love to try if you are more of a traditional person, is Fufu corn and khati khati. Here, you will have fufu made of corn flour. It is eaten with vegetable-garden huckleberry that is called Njama Njama in Cameroon. The khati khati is burnt chicken that is chopped and cooked with palm oil. You would love this delicacy from the North West Region of Cameroon.

If you would want to escape or try something else aside from the traditional setup, you may want to try out fried rice with chicken. Fried rice is a delicious dish loved by many and prepared in so many ways. This delicacy is always in high demand, the reason why all restaurants will want to have it on their menu. People prepare it differently at home depending on their budget, this would be a great meal to try on a great day such as Christmas. It is such a delicious meal especially when cooked with fried chicken.

Craving something more interesting and significant to spice up your celebration, Egusi pudding and Yam would be an ideal meal. Egusi Pudding is known to be a part of the food culture of the people of the North West, Littoral, West and Center Regions of Cameroon. Traditionally, it is a meal of great honor and importance. The main ingredient of this egusi pudding is Egusi seeds. These seeds come from a sort of pumpkin, they are hidden in small shells that need to be cracked to get the seeds. They are a great source of protein and unsaturated fats.

Looking for something more traditional from the South West Region of the country, you may want to try Fufu and Eru. Eru is a common wild plant found in the forests in Cameroon. The vegetable soup is popular among the Bayangi people in the South West Region. Eru tastes great when served with fufu or gari, which are all made from cassava. Nothing delivers flavor and finger-licking goodness with little fuss and even less time than Eru soup.

Finally, if you decide to try something classier, you may want to go for poulet DG. This is a classic Cameroonian meal, with a combination of chicken, fried plantains, and a rich assortment of other ingredients. These ingredients, not everyone can afford on an everyday basis in Cameroon. Thus making it a luxury and classic meal reserved for CEOs.
