Super Eagles’ hopes dwindle as Zimbabwe holds them to a 1-1 tie
By Biwah Bryan
The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced another disappointing outcome in just four days as they tied 1-1 with Zimbabwe at Rwanda’s Huye stadium on Sunday.
Zimbabwe managed to get ahead at the 26th minute thanks to Walter Musona’s exceptional long-range free kick which caught goalkeeper Francis Uzoho off guard and touched the Net.
At 56, the Eagles missed a golden opportunity Presented in the form of a free-kick which was however put to waste before Kelechi Iheanacho equalized at the 65th minute with an assist from Moses Simon.
After the draw with Lesotho a few days ago, this 1-1 result raises doubts of the competitiveness the 2013 African Nations cup champions will bring in their group.
The Eagles now trail by two points after completing two games and are set to face South Africa in June, after the African Nations cup.
