FIFA 2026 WCQ: Inaki Williams late goal lands the black stars a maiden win over Madagascar

By Biwah Bryan

Ghana made a Triumphant Entry into the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a stunning 95th-minute goal from Inaki Williams at the Baba Yara sports stadium.

Madagascar started strong, maintaining possession and keeping the host team on the back foot in the early stages of the game. Despite this, Ghana struggled to penetrate Madagascar’s defense and create chances of their own.

As the half-hour mark approached, Madagascar continued to push forward, putting pressure on Richard Ofori in Ghana’s goal. Ghana eventually found their footing and created opportunities towards the end of the first half.

Madagascar’s defense remained strong throughout the second half, but in the 84th minute, a chance presented itself to Mohammed Kudus, who was denied by a fine save from Melvin Adrien.

In the dying minutes of the game, Inaki Williams produced a magnificent header from close range to secure the victory for Ghana.

The win places Ghana in third place in Group I, behind Comoros and Mali. Their next opponents are Comoros, who recorded a 4-2 victory over the Central African Republic.
